This large and splendid rendering of the character for tortoise is a great example of the beautiful and distinctive style of the revered master calligrapher, Seo Kyeong Bo aka Ilboong (1914 - 1996). 54.25 x 27.5 inches, 138 x 70 cm. The tortoise has been revered in Korea for millenia, and is an ancient symbol of steadfastness and longevity. The underside of his shell was believed to conceal the secrets of the universe.
